As more and more of us are working from home, many people have had to setup “home offices” in less than ideal locations of their homes.

Do you really want your co-workers to see the takeaway box on the kitchen bench behind you? Or that pile of ironing in the corner of your bedroom? On a side note, do you really need to keep your wardrobe door open whilst on a call?!

There are plenty of reasons you might want to blur what’s going on behind you.

It’s worth noting that you need a fairly modern webcam / laptop camera in order for blurred backgrounds to work. Anything from the last 5 years or so should work, but if the option below doesn’t appear then that might be the reason why.

  1. Start your meeting/call

    Open Microsoft Teams and join a meeting.

  2. Click More / …

    Click on the three-dot More menu in the top right corner of the video window.

  3. Select “Blur” option

    Click Blur from the backgrounds settings panel and then click Apply

  4. Accept any prompts

    If prompted, allow Teams to access your camera.

  5. Your background will now be blurred.

    If you want to change the background, you can select “Choose background effect” and select from the options provided.

  6. Turn Blur off

    To turn off the blur, simply repeat the steps and select the box with a picture of a crossed out circle
