Assistant initial setup is actually surprisingly straightforward and really is just the case of following the instructions presented on screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where it gets a bit more complicated is class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We assume you&#8217;ve gone through the initial installation process for your device of choice, be that a raspberry pi, a docker image or (like me) hass.io in ESXI as a virtual machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Navigate_to_your_install\"><\/span>Navigate to your install<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve got Home Assistant powered up and you&#8217;ve taken note of the IP address and port number, open up your favourite web browser and navigate to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My example below is;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>https:&#47;&#47;192.168.1.11:8123<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span a Name, which will also self populate as your Username by default, although you can edit this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Choose a password, preferably one that doesn&#8217;t suck, I personally like having chrome generate something random, or use a tool like <a href=\"https:\/\/privacycanada.net\/strong-password-generator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Name_and_locate_your_home\"><\/span>Name and locate your home<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Next you want to give your home a name;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"956\" class=\"wp-element-caption\">I decided to call my home, Home, how original<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And set your location.
